The company is one of the leading food enterprises in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, a recognised manufacturer of oil and fat products, including margarine, butter, mayonnaise, vegetable oil and sauces. The company employs over 2,000 people and constantly invests in the improvement of production and processes.
The company planned to decrease its heat losses and energy consumption, and contacted KazSEFF for an advisory package and affordable financing for the potential project.
The KazSEFF team performed an energy assessment of the production facilities, evaluated the project financial-technical parameters and risks.
The project included insulation of oil and fat storage tanks and a pipe system, and installation of dispersers to optimise fuel oil combustion in the boiler.
The $380,000 investment allowed the company to reduce its energy consumption by 19.5 MWh per year, resulting in the annual costs savings of $390,000. This means the investment will be repaid out of energy savings in just one year, continuing to generate revenues for many years to follow. The measures also resulted in the improved oil storage and transportation system, as well as reduced the CO2 emissions by 5,300 tonnes per year, making a valuable contribution to the mitigation of the negative effects of human activity on the climate.
This is a good example of how simple and profitable energy efficiency measures can be. Such measures can be implemented in all types of industries and various size of companies.
The EBRD supports implementation of such sustainable energy projects by the private sector through KazSEFF. Together, the private, residential and public sectors can make a change in energy consumption patterns and contribute to environmental protection.
