Three renewable energy projects in Armenia that were financed by EBRD’s GEFF in 2019 are competing for the National Energy Globe Awards:
The Energy Globe Awards were founded by the Austrian energy pioneer Wolfgang Neumann in 1999 and are one of the world’s most prestigious environmental awards. The objective of the award is to present successful sustainable projects to a global audience and to demonstrate that feasible solutions already exist for many environmental issues.
Around 800 projects and initiatives are submitted annually from 180 countries to compete for the National Energy Globe Awards. The winners on the national level are then nominated for a chance to win the International Energy Globe Award or the Energy Globe World Award. The international category winners are announced during a ceremony that is broadcast worldwide and covered by international media.
Participation is open to projects, which focus on resource conservation, air and water quality, energy efficiency and renewable energy, and projects that focus on creating awareness in these areas. The competition is open to individuals, private or public institutions, companies and NGOs and there is no entry fee.
GEFF in Armenia looks forward to furthering nominations and developments in connection with the Energy Globe Awards. In the meantime, the energy efficiency and renewable energy projects of four partner financial institutions in the corporate and SME sector in Armenia will continue to be financed: as of December 2019, GEFF has financed 102 projects in energy efficiency and renewable energy totalling €9,330,000.
