On 26 November 2021, an online event entitled “Energy Efficiency Investments for SMEs” was jointly hosted by GEFF in Armenia and ArmSwissBank. The primary purpose of the event was to raise awareness about energy efficiency practices and technologies available to SME clients and potential investors as well as showcase the advantages of using green technologies in business operations.
In today’s world, investments in energy efficiency play an essential role in developing a sustainable economy. They are crucial tools for mitigating or adapting to the effects of climate change, which threatens the livelihood of businesses and households alike. Air-cooled and absorption chillers, air compressors, steam and gas boilers, ventilation systems, electric motors, water source heat pumps, electric, diesel and LPG forklifts, and other light-duty vehicles provide immense support to local SMEs on their quest to becoming more competitive by saving energy resources and optimising their operations – all the while minimising the negative effects on the environment that their business activities may have.
In its efforts to promote investments in green technologies and showcase the benefits they bring, GEFF in Armenia experts and ArmSwissBank representatives discussed how Armenian businesses depend on energy resources and explained their potential for optimising this dependence through green technologies and applicable practices.
Business representatives from various sectors, including production, hospitality, trade, and services, had the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the different green technologies available through GEFF’s Green Technology Selector (GTS). The online platform includes more than 39,537 best-in-class technologies available globally under GEFF financing as well as 1,482 local technologies available in Armenia. It is also crucial that the technologies in the GTS continually undergo various monitoring activities, so as to ensure that they deliver a minimum level of energy efficiency, which is 20% higher than the market average for the specific category, in addition to meeting the high standards of being ethically sourced set by the EBRD.
As highlighted by the Director of Development of ArmSwissBank, Dr. Arkadi Pinachyan, “It has always been about long-term goals and adherence to values that have set our bank aside and put the financing of green projects at the core of the bank’s portfolio development”.
