RA Government has approved the tariff for electricity produced by solar power stations. Tariff has been formed as a result of international competition.
“We have set an unprecedented tariff of 4.19 cents. Today, no similar low tariff exists in the world, which implies that solar energy will start developing in Armenia with high speed,” said Ashot Manukyan, Acting Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.
He also said that according to the agenda, it is envisaged to build an accumulator station in Armenia by the end of the year, with a cumulative capacity of 14 MW, rating the 10th in the world. “In other words, Armenia will be included in the top ten countries that develop advanced solar technologies”, said Mr Ashot Manukyan.
By another government decree, the agenda on alternative energy accumulation and management in Armenia has been approved. The goal of the agenda is to replace 18-20% of electricity generated by gas stations over the next 10 years by generating electricity from alternative sources, thus directing the electricity generated by gas stations to export. “The document will be a new impetus for attracting investments by raising the level of energy security in Armenia. In order to accurately estimate the efficiency of the electric power plants in Armenia, to obtain an experience of their work and to assess their economic efficiency, it is proposed to build and put into operation a pilot electric power plant,” reads the statement.
