A new chapter of producing traditional wine with green equipment gives hope for a brighter future

In 2002, the Avetisyan family established the wine production company Kataro, which in 2010 introduced bottled wine for mass consumption made from Khndoghni (Sireni), a rare variety of wine grape indigenous to the Hadrut region. Annually, the winemaker produced and exported approximately 60,000 bottles of wine overseas.

The winemaker decided to invest in energy-efficient bottling equipment made in Italy to establish its production in the Ararat valley.

Owing to the efforts of the partner financial institution, financing through GEFF was made accessible to the company in combination with the Program on “State assistance of leasing for financial lending of agri-food equipment in the Republic of Armenia”.

In the near future, the company will make use of high-performance European technology and continue with the production of its exquisite wines while at the same time reducing its energy expenses by 41% in comparison with the market average and contributing to a CO2 saving of 3 tonnes per year.

“It would have been difficult, if not impossible, to establish a new production site without access to GEFF financing, the State Subsidy Programme and the professional support of our partner financial institution. With the support of our vendor, we hope to resume the installation of equipment without delay and begin with production already this year,” affirms Mr Grigoriy Avetisyan, the company founder.
