EBRD GEFF presents energy and cost savings calculator in Bosnia and Herzegovina
“By implementing energy efficiency measures, citizens can save money, increase the comfort of their home and reduce air pollution”
March 5th, 2019. World Energy Efficiency Day is being marked all over the world today.
Climate change is affecting our health and lives every day. The number of people suffering or even losing their lives because of climate change and air pollution is rising. In line with international efforts to combat climate change and the EBRD’s particular competencies in the field of sustainable energy, the EBRD supports as a priority the improvements in energy efficiency and energy savings across the Western Balkans.
Energy efficiency measures aim to reduce consumption of electrical and thermal energy in households and increase the comfort and quality of people’s life. Every household can consume energy efficiently thus saving money and reducing air pollution at the same time. By using energy-efficient technologies, such as highly energy-efficient windows and doors, heating/cooling systems and systems used for insulation, families can significantly reduce the annual energy costs, keep the home warm throughout the winter season and enjoy even the warmest days.
Energy efficiency in BiH
On average, the intensity of energy consumption in Bosnia and Herzegovina is three times higher than the one in the EU. Houses and residential buildings in BiH are mostly old, heating and cooling systems are worn out and without insulation. As part of the overall energy mix, the residential sector accounts for more than 60 percent of energy consumption, especially over the past 20 years. Therefore, it is highly necessary to implement energy efficiency measures in the residential sector, given the fact that this sector has the biggest potential for saving energy and money.
For example, by implementing two energy-efficient measures – PVC windows and thermal insulation, it is possible to reduce energy consumption up to 36% and save up to EUR 1.035 per year in a 140m2 house
In order to help each resident of Bosnia and Herzegovina see how much energy and cost highly energy efficient but affordable technologies can bring to their household, EBRD GEFF developed an on-line Savings Calculator. Homeowners can now calculate their savings and find out what technologies would increase the energy efficiency of their home the most.
EBRD GEFF program
EBRD Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) provides finance for green economy investments in the residential sector as well as to businesses who provide energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies and services to households through local partner banks. In order to make the list of products eligible for financing readily available to customers across BiH, EBRD has developed the Technology Selector, an on-line shopping style platform that lists ‘best-in-class’ green technologies that improve energy efficiency of houses and apartments.
EBRD GEFF was made possible with support of the European Union (EU), the Austrian Ministry of Finance (BMF) and the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), as well as in cooperation with the Energy Community Secretariat (ECS).
