Homes in Kosovo are set to become more environmentally friendly thanks to a loan from the Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) in the Western Balkans. The facility is providing up to €2 million to Kreditimi Rural i Kosoves (KrK), the third-largest microfinance institution in Kosovo.
KrK will on-lend funds to borrowers from the residential sector for investments in technologies which help to reduce energy intensity and improve energy efficiency. With these investments, households will not only become more energy efficient but will also cut their greenhouse gas emissions, reducing their impact on the environment.
The GEFF in the Western Balkans is a regional facility that has been launched by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to support residential energy efficiency investments in the region. The facility is supported by grant funding from the European Western Balkans Joint Fund under the Western Balkans Investment Framework, the European Union and Austria.
