Boosting green energy efficiency in Poland the EBRD is providing a €100 million loan to SG Equipment Leasing Polska (SGEL), a subsidiary of Société Générale S.A. SGEL a leading leasing company in Poland for equipment finance.
The funds will benefit privately owned small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Poland for their energy and resource efficiency investments, including renewable energy generation and water and waste management. Green projects will cover a broad spectrum of technologies such as thermal insulation, photovoltaic solar panels, geothermal heat pumps, water efficient irrigation systems and electric cars.
The loan comes under a special EBRD programme, the Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) for Leasing in Poland, which is part of the Bank’s Green Economy Transition approach. The Bank is a leader in working with private sector financial institutions, providing regional banks with finance for sustainability projects.
The GEFF programme provides green financing to SMEs and households through a network of more than 130 local financial institutions across 24 countries, supported by over €4 billion of EBRD funds since inception.
To date, the EBRD has invested more than €8.6 billion through 390 projects in Poland. In its work in the country, the Bank is focusing on the development of the local capital market, support of cross-border expansion of local companies, strengthening competitiveness and support for the green economy.
