Aluminium manufacturer increases production output and improves competitiveness

Arab Aluminium Company upgraded its homogenization furnace to a new one, which is expected to reduce the energy consumption and operating hours.

Established in 1976, the Arab Aluminum Company (S.A.E) specializes in extruding aluminum profiles used for different purposes such as architectural and industrial. The company exports their products to a variety of markets including France, Australia, Germany, Czech Republic, UK, as well as Arab and African countries.

Arab Aluminum decided to enhance their market competitiveness by improving process reliability and production quality while lowering their operational costs. The company’s decision to identify the best available technology to help them achieve their goals was a strong motivator to seek technical support from the GEFF team.

The GEFF team evaluated the efficiency characteristics of the furnace and confirmed that its performance was in line with the best available technologies internationally. In addition to assessing the economic viability of the installation, the GEFF team also provided an assessment of the potential environmental benefits associated with the investment.

The US$ 200,000 investment is expected to reduce overall energy consumption by the equivalent of 18,169 MWh per year when both fuel and electricity savings are accounted for. Arab Aluminum’s reduction in their energy savings alone without the benefits of increased production will help recover the investment in less than one year. This is in addition to the improved reliability and final product quality.

The reduction of greenhouse gases associated with this investment is estimated at 3,574 tonnes of CO2 per year, a valuable contribution to mitigating the negative impacts of climate change.

GEFF Egypt was developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is supported by the European Union Neighbourhood Investment Facility.
