Improved efficiency leads Bericap to save production costs

New production line purchased with the help of GEFF result in energy savings and production increase for Bericap Egypt.

BERICAP is one of the leading manufacturers of plastic caps and closures for beverage, food and non-food markets. The company has 23 factories operating in 20 countries around the world. The company’s headquarters is in Germany.

To reduce production cost, and increase production capacity, BERICAP invested in improving the energy efficiency of its production process, at its production facility located in 6th of October city in Egypt. The company replaced an old production line consisting of a hydraulic injection moulding machine, feeding conveyer and five moulds with a new line consisting of a hybrid injection moulding machine, new feeding conveyer, three new moulds, and two temperature controllers.

The GEFF team performed the project analysis, assessed the potential of energy savings, financial-technical parameters and risks.

The USD 1,700,000 investment allowed the company to reduce the energy consumption by 1,053 MWh per year, resulting in the annual costs savings of USD 298,948 and an increase production capacity of 62% on that production line. This means the investment will be repaid out of energy savings in 3 years.

The new equipment led to a reduction of the CO2 emissions by 279 tonnes per year, making a valuable input towards mitigation of negative effect of human activity on climate.

GEFF Egypt was developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is supported by the European Union Neighbourhood Investment Facility.
