Western Balkan countries consume three times more energy than countries in European Union, therefore the need for energy efficiency is growing every day.

Nexhat Pukaj from Istog admits that choosing to install wooden windows when he built his house was totally a wrong decision. It was always cold during winter and that was devastating for the whole family, but especially for his four children and his mother.

The homeowner heard about the GEFF Programme and decided to apply in order to make the house warm, cleaner and more comfortable to live in. The investment worth €3,840 was dedicated for energy efficient windows and doors. After the investment was completed, this Kosovo family received an EU incentive of €575.

The insulation of the house is now improved and everyone enjoys comfort during cold winters and hot summers. The family achieves energy savings of 3 MWh per year and plans to extend energy efficiency investments in the future.

The GEFF programme for the Western Balkans is supported by the European Union (EU), the Federal Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Austria and the Western Balkans Investment Framework in cooperation with the Energy Community Secretariat (ECS).
