Giza Power Industry’s increased production output and improved competitiveness by optimizing the energy performance of its medium voltage cable production lines

Giza Power Industry (GPI), formerly known as Giza Cables is a leading producer of power cables with production facility located in Abo Rawash, in the Giza governorate.  GPI specializes in manufacturing various types of power cables including low, medium, high and extra high voltage cables using both aluminum and copper conductors.

Using the GEFF platform, GPI decided to enhance its competitiveness by optimizing the energy performance of its medium voltage cable production lines. This initiative involved the addition of a new production line known for its superior energy efficiency and for  increasing production capacity and quality.

GPI was convinced that enhancing its production and operational efficiency is a key approach to maintain their market competitiveness. Reducing operational costs while improving their production capacity as well as the quality of their final product key target for GPI.

The investment made in GPI’s project of USD 2,378,600 yielded remarkable results. The new efficient production line led to a 21% reduction in overall primary energy consumption, thus directly enhancing profitability. Additionally, the enhanced final product quality and increased production capacity further strengthened GPI’s competitive advantage in the industry.

Financial gains are not the only benefits that GPI realized as a result of this project. They were able to mitigate the emission of 781 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually and became proud of their contribution to combat the negative effects of climate change.

Participating in the GEFF program also offered GPI free technical support by a team of qualified consultants who manged to help steer the project to comply with the GEFF requirements, and to quantify the investment’s expected financial and environmental benefits.

GEFF Egypt was developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is supported by the European Union Neighbourhood Investment Facility.
