A high-performance extrusion line helps PET improve energy efficiency of the production process and increase productivity.

PET for Packaging is a private family business. The company has a diverse product range including plastic cups and other food packaging products. The company was established in 2011.

In order to improve its competitiveness, PET is undertaking several measures to improve the energy performance of their extrusion line, which is the core process in plastic packaging production. The measures include installing a high-performance extrusion line that will both improve the energy efficiency of the extrusion process, as well as, increase productivity.

The GEFF team conducted the project technical assessment, through several site visits and working with the sub-borrower and the participating financial institution teams to provide technical advice when needed.

The US$ 3,000,000 investment allowed the company to reduce 17,000 MWh per year of primary energy, which will help the company save production cost while improving its productivity.

The reduction of greenhouse gases associated with this investment is estimated 3,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year, a valuable contribution to mitigating the negative impacts of climate change.

GEFF Egypt was developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is supported by the European Union Neighbourhood Investment Facility.
