Addition of electric busses to the public transportation in Manisa

Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Department of Transportation purchased Electric buses to reduce GHGs and generate energy savings in 2018.

Beneficiary of the electrical transportation project is Manisa Metropolitan Municipality which provides municipal services to a 1,4 million population in Aegean region of Turkey.

Manisa Metropolitan Municipality’s Department of Transportation purchased twenty Sileo S18 Electric buses, two Sileo S25 Electric buses and twenty-two charging equipment for the electric buses to reduce GHGs and save energy.

Company financed the investment by TurSEFF loan blended with technical assistance. During the project implementation TurSEFF consultant performed procurement analysis, the project analysis, assessed the potential of diesel savings, financial-technical parameters, and risks of the investment.

The company used €4,066,914 TurSEFF loan from a partner financial institution. With the investment, 1,303,050 litter per year diesel savings will be achieved.

The Investment helps reduction of the CO2 emissions up to 1,612 tonnes per year.

As a non-profit organization, municipality’s priority is to gain environmental benefits by investing in electric buses. In addition to the fuel cost savings accomplished by replacing diesel ones with the electric busses, Manisa Municipality will also achieve significant cost savings with the reduction of regular annual maintenance costs.

The Turkey Sustainable Energy Financing Facility (TurSEFF) was developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to provide financing for Resource Efficiency and Sustainable Energy investments. European Union (EU) is supporting TurSEFF by providing finance to Technical Assistance.
