The National Bank of Georgia (NBG) has begun publishing data on green loans aligned with its Sustainable Finance Taxonomy, strengthening transparency in Georgia’s green finance market.
Under the taxonomy framework, commercial banks apply a unified definition of green loans and submit monthly reports on taxonomy-aligned lending to the NBG. This reporting requirement has been in place since January 2023, following the entry into force of the Regulation on the Classification and Reporting of Loans in accordance with the taxonomy.
The newly launched Green Loan Dashboard presents taxonomy-aligned green loans by sector, illustrates their development over time, and provides an overview of the overall green loan portfolio. The data are collected through a standardized monthly reporting process and are fully aligned with the Sustainable Finance Taxonomy Regulation.
The Sustainable Finance Taxonomy itself was introduced by the National Bank of Georgia in 2022 with the involvement of local and international stakeholders, establishing a clear and consistent framework for identifying and reporting green financial products.
The Green Loan Dashboard was developed as part of the National Bank’s Sustainable Finance Roadmap and will be updated on a monthly basis.
