The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is expanding its green financing support in Jordan by providing a second loan of up to US$ 20 million to Cairo Amman Bank (CAB) under its Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF). The loan includes co-financing from the Green Climate Fund (GCF); incentive grants provided by the European Union (EU); and technical assistance supported by the EBRD, EU and GCF. This new facility builds directly upon the successful deployment of the initial US$ 10 million GEFF facility extended to CAB in 2022.
The funding will provide local individuals and private micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) with access to dedicated green finance tools. These resources will enable sub-borrowers to invest in high-performance climate change mitigation and adaptation technologies while benefiting from EU-funded financial incentives and specialized technical expertise.
Additionally, a comprehensive technical cooperation package, actively implemented by GEFF team, will support the execution of the programme and provide CAB staff with capacity-building training to integrate climate change and gender equality considerations into their standard lending practices.
