The EBRD GEFF Jordan launch event was held on 6 December 2022 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Amman, Jordan. EBRD together with the GEFF team prepared the launch event. The event introduced the Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) to all related parties: participating financial institutions (PFIs), private sector companies, governmental bodies, international organizations and local vendors.
The director and regional head for eastern Mediterranean from the EBRD, Mr. Phiilip ter Woort, initiated the event with a welcoming ceremony and introduced the honorary guests, including Mr. Francis Malige, the managing director of financial institutions group from the EBRD; his excellency, Mr. Muwaieh Radaideh, the minister of environment of Jordan; and her excellency, Ms. Maria Hadjitheodosiou, the ambassador and head of the EU delegation to Jordan.
To focus on the importance of GEFF and its contribution to the Jordanian economic and environmental sectors, two panel discussions took place. In the first panel, representatives from the PFIs of GEFF discussed the challenges and opportunities of green finance within the Jordanian financial sector. The second panel discussed the experiences and challenges of the Jordanian private sector in green finance and the solutions that can be provided through GEFF. In addition, key stakeholders of the private sector contributed to the second panel discussion.
The launch event concluded by closing remarks from the managing director of the southern and eastern Mediterranean “SEMED” region from the EBRD, Dr. Heike Harmgart. This event represents the cornerstone of the GEFF Jordan Facility and a step forward to initiate financing solution for green projects success stories.
