Expanding the electric vehicle fleet promotes the development of sustainable urban transport and enhances the availability of taxi services in Almaty
Esentai Success LLP, registered in 2022, has implemented a project to expand its electric vehicle fleet to provide taxi services in Almaty. The project is aimed at meeting the growing demand for urban taxi services.
Kazakhstan is experiencing a steady increase in demand for taxi services, driven by rising private vehicle ownership costs, as well as the implementation of urban transport policies focused on expanding pedestrian zones and reducing parking availability. As a result, demand for economy-class rides consistently exceeds supply.
To expand its existing fleet, the company acquired 143 Hongqi E-QM5 electric vehicles eligible under the Green Technology Selector. The investment enabled the company to scale up its electric fleet from 35 to 178 units, expanding the provision of taxi services in Almaty. The project was financed by BCC Leasing, a subsidiary of Bank CenterCredit JSC, under the EBRD’s Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF).
Compared to conventional petrol-powered vehicles, electric vehicles generate zero direct tailpipe CO₂ emissions during operation and benefit from lower operating costs. The project contributes to scaling up green mobility in Almaty while addressing the rising demand for taxi services.
