Thanks to the support of the KyrSEFF Green Economy Financing Program, the implementation of energy-efficient measures has reduced coal consumption to 2 tons per season.

Amid growing energy challenges and rising electricity tariffs, improving the energy efficiency of residential buildings has become a top priority for the private sector in Kyrgyzstan. One successful example is the story of Taalaibek Amanov, a resident of the town of Kemin, who took advantage of the KyrSEFF Green Economy Financing Program supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Previously, Taalaibek Amanov’s family had to use 5–6 tons of coal during the heating season. Despite this, the house remained cold and failed to provide adequate warmth, especially for children and elderly family members. In search of a solution, he contacted Kompanion Bank, where he learned about KyrSEFF — a program focused on implementing energy-efficient measures.

As a result, a loan was issued within a few days. After receiving the funds, a water-based underfloor heating system was installed, and old windows were replaced with energy-efficient ones.

All renovation work was carried out in compliance with quality standards and within a short timeframe. As a result of the energy efficiency measures, coal consumption dropped to 2 tons per season.

According to KyrSEFF engineers, the annual energy savings amount to 0.99 megawatt-hours — approximately the amount of electricity a typical family consumes in 1–2 months. In addition, CO₂ emissions were reduced by 0.6 tons, which is equivalent to planting 10 trees that absorb CO₂ throughout the year.

Taalaibek Amanov says his family is happy to now live in comfortable conditions. A nice bonus — he already received a grant of up to 15% of the loan amount under KyrSEFF, which partially covered the interest on the loan.

The grant funds were awarded because Taalaibek Amanov provided the KyrSEFF team with all the necessary documentation confirming the energy efficiency of the implemented measures.

“The renovation turned out great. Now the house is bright, clean, warm, and pleasant to live in. We live with our children and grandchildren, and now everyone is comfortable. I’m very grateful to the staff of Kompanion Bank and the KyrSEFF team. Everything went smoothly and quickly. I plan to continue the renovation and use the program again,” said Taalaibek Amanov.

Additionally, using his own funds, he insulated the outer walls with 5–6 cm thick polystyrene and finished them with travertine.

The KyrSEFF program, implemented in Kyrgyzstan with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), not only helps reduce utility costs but also contributes to mitigating the effects of climate change.
