Thanks to a KyrSEFF loan, an 11.2 kW solar power plant was installed at Bilim-Kench School for uninterrupted electricity supply.
The private school Bilim-Kench School has been operating in Kyrgyzstan since 2019, providing educational services to children of primary school age. In 2023, the school opened a new building for 250 students in Iskhak village, Kadamjai district, Batken province. Frequent power cuts created serious problems, especially on holidays when children were preparing for matinees. Without light, water pumps, computers and projectors did not work, which greatly frustrated the teaching staff and students and disrupted the learning process.
The school offers a unique program that combines English with the national curriculum, as well as extracurricular activities such as taekwondo, chess, dance and mental arithmetic. The school’s students, many of whom are children of migrants, speak fluent Russian and English, as evidenced by their success in Olympiads.
The head of the school, Kunduzkhan Isakova, said that through the KyrSEFF program at Kompanion Bank, the school obtained a loan for the installation of an 11.2 kW solar power plant. The loan procedure was quick, so the school was able to solve its energy problems promptly.
The solar plant was installed in November 2024. Additional equipment to start up the station is currently awaiting delivery.
In the future, the solar plant will allow the school to significantly reduce its energy costs:
Energy savings: 12.57 mWh/year
CO2 savings: 0.65 tons per year
In addition, the use of renewable energy has raised awareness of sustainable energy use practices among staff and pupils.
Kunduzkhan Isakova emphasized the importance of sustainable development and the use of modern technologies in education: “Now climate change is coming and we have to be ready for these challenges. Children are advanced, they need computers and projectors, and we must provide them with everything they need for successful learning. It is not money that is expensive, but time that we cannot lose. We need to emphasize education, because our strong children need to work in Kyrgyzstan, and we need to create facilities for them to stay here. We need electricity for that,” she said.
Many colleagues in the education sector want to follow their school’s example, she said. “The use of renewable energy helps in saving electricity and preserving the environment. Especially the cost of electricity is constantly increasing, for commercial facilities this is a significant advantage. We thank the entire KyrSEFF team for their assistance in installing the solar plant, we will continue to develop further,” shares Kunduzkhan Isakova.
