Enhancing diagnostic capacity while reducing energy consumption

Invest Radiologie is a Moroccan company specialized in the management and operation of medical imaging centres, including the Al Amal Radiology Centre, established in 2016. The centre provides a range of diagnostic imaging services and plays a key role in meeting growing healthcare needs in its region.

In response to increasing demand for advanced imaging services, the company sought to expand its diagnostic capabilities while improving operational efficiency. Prior to the project, the centre relied on older-generation CT scanning equipment, characterized by high energy consumption and limited throughput, which constrained its ability to meet patient demand and optimize performance.

As part of its development strategy, Invest Radiologie invested in a new-generation CT scanner, the NeuViz 128, following a comparative assessment of available technologies on the market. The selected solution combines high-quality imaging with improved energy efficiency, enabling the centre to enhance both clinical performance and resource management.

The NeuViz 128 scanner integrates advanced technologies designed to reduce energy consumption, particularly during active scanning phases. It uses optimized image reconstruction algorithms that enhance processing efficiency while lowering energy requirements. These innovations also contribute to improved image quality and reduced radiation exposure for patients and medical staff.

The new equipment significantly improved both operational performance and efficiency. Energy consumption per scan was reduced to 910 Wh, compared to 2.47 kWh for previous-generation scanners. At the same time, the system increased the centre’s capacity, enabling up to 40 scans per day, double the capacity of the previous equipment.

These improvements resulted in a measurable reduction in energy consumption, estimated at 8.1 MWh annually. This translates into a reduction of approximately 4.63 tons of CO₂ equivalent emissions per year, contributing to the environmental performance of the facility.

Through this investment, Invest Radiologie demonstrates how healthcare providers can leverage advanced medical technologies to enhance service quality, improve operational efficiency, and reduce energy consumption. The project provides a concrete example of how innovation in the healthcare sector can support both performance and sustainability objectives.

Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) in Morocco is a green economy financing program, implemented by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), will provide financing to Moroccan private enterprises through local financial institution partners. Supported by the European Union (EU), the Green Climate Fund (GCF). It will enable local companies to invest in green technologies, reduce their costs through climate adaptation measures, energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies.
