Smart cooling upgrade lowers bills and CO₂ emissions at Jordan’s herbal pharmaceutical leader.

Al-Attar, one of Jordan’s leading herbal pharmaceutical companies, found a way to cut soaring energy costs and improve working conditions by investing in a state-of-the-art Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) cooling system with support from GEFF and Bank Al Etihad.

Established in Jordan, Al-Attar is renowned for producing herbal pharmaceuticals and serves a wide range of clients across the country with high-quality products. Cooling is critical for the company’s operations, but traditional AC units came with high energy bills and maintenance costs, motivating the company to look for a smarter, more efficient solution.

With support from GEFF and Bank Al Etihad, Al-Attar invested US$ 266,784 in a VRF system, including essential works such as ducting and fans to ensure full operational efficiency. The investment was supported by a US$ 26,664 cashback incentive, giving the company immediate financial relief. The new system delivers reliable cooling, lowers energy consumption by 838 GJ per year, and stabilizes facility operations, improving overall efficiency.

“The new VRF system not only lowers our energy bills but also improves working conditions, making our operations more sustainable and efficient,” said an Al-Attar representative.

The Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) in Jordan was developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is supported by the European Union (EU) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
