Meeting demand with smarter, greener tuna production

Al Murjan for Canned Food L.L.C., based in Sahab, Amman, is Jordan’s first canned tuna factory and a leading name across the MENA region. To meet rising demand and improve efficiency, the company upgraded its canning and seaming operations.

With financing from the Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) through Bank al Etihad, Al Murjan replaced two old canning machines and a traditional seaming machine with modern, high-capacity equipment.

The investment of $US 379,165, supported by a cashback incentive of $US 37,916.5, boosted production by more than 20% and reduced energy consumption by 27%, cutting emissions and ensuring more consistent product quality.

As the management noted: “This investment helps us meet demand while saving energy and improving quality.”

The Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) in Jordan is developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is supported by the European Union (EU) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
