TurSEFF is supporting Antalya Metropolitan Municipality’s efforts to build a green transportation system by facilitating the leasing of electric buses, with the buses selected from the Green Technology Selector (GTS).

Antalya Metropolitan Municipality is one of the largest municipalities in Türkiye, serving millions of residents and visitors each year. The Municipality is committed to sustainable urban development and has been actively investing in low-carbon mobility solutions.

To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, operational costs and to improve the comfort and efficiency of public transportation, the Municipality decided to replace diesel buses with electric alternatives. The overall goal was to support the city’s sustainability targets.

TurSEFF provided financing and technical assistance for the procurement of two 8.5-meter electric buses and two charging stations in 2022. The support enabled the Municipality to assess the technical viability and environmental impact of the investment. The TurSEFF team advised the Municipality on alternative and cost-effective ways to realize this investment. The team also assisted the Municipality in using Green Technology Selector, and in selecting the optimum pre-approved equipment from the tool.

The €492,797 investment led to the successful deployment of zero-emission electric buses, enhancing public transportation services, especially for students on the campus of Akdeniz University. The switch to electric mobility is expected to significantly reduce fuel consumption and maintenance costs over time.

By replacing diesel buses with electric ones, the project is estimated to reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 47 tonnes per year, making a significant contribution to climate change mitigation efforts. The project marks an important step towards achieving long-term climate and air quality goals.

Türkiye Sustainable Energy Financing Facility (TurSEFF) was developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is co-funded by the European Union (EU), the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Treasury and Finance (MoTF), and supported by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (MoENR).
