TurSEFF loan supports clean energy generation from landfill gas in Milas, Muğla, enabling Arel Çevre to expand its renewable energy operations and contribute to climate change mitigation.

Arel Yenilenebilir Enerji Teknolojileri ve Elektrik Üretimi Limited Şirketi (Arel Çevre) was established in 2011 and serves in the renewable energy industry and focuses on waste segregation and energy production from biogas. The company has an agreement with Muğla Metropolitan Municipality for municipal solid waste (MSW), under which the company provides the installation and operation of several landfill gas plants in the region.

The company aimed to increase its renewable energy capacity, reduce methane emissions from municipal solid waste, and generate electricity through biogas recovery.

To this end, the company, having partnered with TurSEFF, decided to undertake the investment through TurSEFF in order to benefit from the engineering, financial, and marketing services provided alongside the financing (technical assistance package).

The 2.97 MW landfill gas power plant was implemented with the support of €2,693,297 TurSEFF finance in 2020. The plant is expected to generate 17,815 MWh of clean energy annually, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and increasing renewable energy in the region.

The project is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 58,339 tonnes per year, significantly contributing to environmental sustainability and climate change mitigation.

Türkiye Sustainable Energy Financing Facility (TurSEFF) was developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is co-funded by the European Union (EU), the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Treasury and Finance (MoTF), and supported by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (MoENR).
