TurSEFF loan is supporting As Koç Enerji in expanding its renewable energy portfolio with a new biogas plant investment, contributing to energy supply security and climate change mitigation in Türkiye.

As Koç Enerji is a growing Turkish energy operator with licensed biogas plants in Diyarbakır, Ankara, and Kırşehir, as well as a solar plant in Ukraine. The company is known for its focus on renewable energy technologies and sustainable energy solutions.

To further enhance its renewable energy portfolio, As Koç Enerji decided to invest in a new biogas plant in Karabiga, Çanakkale, to generate clean energy from organic waste, including cattle and poultry waste as well as agricultural residues. The investment aimed to support Türkiye’s transition to green energy and reduce dependency on fossil fuels.

In 2021, the TurSEFF team provided comprehensive technical support along with financing. This included project analysis, assessment of energy generation potential, and environmental impact evaluation.

The €4.498.000 investment enabled the construction of a 3.12 MWe biogas plant. As a result, the plant is expected to generate 18,432 MWh of electricity annually, contributing to local energy supply and reducing energy costs in the long term.

The project is estimated to reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 5,898 tonnes per year, making a meaningful contribution to the fight against climate change through renewable energy generation.

Türkiye Sustainable Energy Financing Facility (TurSEFF) was developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is co-funded by the European Union (EU), the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Treasury and Finance (MoTF), and supported by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (MoENR).
