Reducing costs, enhancing quality: the Berzi Plastics' energy efficiency story
Berzi Plastics, a long-standing name in Egypt’s plastic packaging industry since 1971, supplies tailored solutions to FMCG companies across the region. As part of its drive for greater competitiveness and sustainability, the company invested in an energy-efficient plastic injection machine, replacing an outdated, high-consumption model.
The upgrade aimed to cut energy costs, improve productivity, and enhance product quality—while reinforcing Berzi Plastics’ commitment to operational excellence and climate action.
With a total investment of $129,760, the project delivered:
72% reduction in electricity consumption (1,543 MWh saved annually)
20% decrease in annual energy costs
1,044 tonnes of CO₂ emissions avoided per year
To accelerate financing, Berzi Plastics used the GEFF Green Technology Selector to identify pre-approved technologies—speeding up the loan process. GEFF Egypt also provided free technical support, helping assess the commercial and environmental benefits of the investment.
This upgrade not only strengthens Berzi Plastics’ bottom line but also underscores its role as a responsible, future-oriented manufacturer in Egypt’s packaging sector.
GEFF Egypt was developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is supported by the European Union Neighbourhood Investment Platform.
