TurSEFF loan supports electricity generation from landfill gas project in Amasya, promoting clean energy and environmental sustainability.
Boğazköy Enerji Elektrik was established in May 2013 with the sole purpose of owning and operating the landfill gas plant located in Amasya.
The company aimed to invest in renewable energy, reduce methane emissions from landfill waste, and generate profit by feeding electricity into the national grid.
The project was financed through TurSEFF in 2015, including technical assistance to assess energy potential, environmental impact, and economic feasibility.
The 1.2 MW landfill gas power plant was implemented with the support of €997,214 TurSEFF finance. The plant is expected to generate approximately 8.6 GWh of electricity annually, potentially increasing the share of renewables in Türkiye’s energy mix.
The project is expected to contribute to the reduction of 69,143 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, improve local air quality, and prevent unpleasant odours, thereby delivering environmental and public health benefits.
Türkiye Sustainable Energy Financing Facility (TurSEFF) was developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is co-funded by the European Union (EU), the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Treasury and Finance (MoTF), and supported by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (MoENR).
