A new drip irrigation system helps to reduce water consumption and labor

Nikolai Arlikhanovich Syzdykov, a resident of the village of Shieli, Kyzylorda region, has been growing rice for many years. First of all, it is very important for a person engaged in crop production to save the time and get a harvest as early as possible. It is also significant to keep the rice under water permanently. The old drip irrigation system of Nikolai Arlikhanovich required replacement after many years of operation. The man decided to purchase a new drip irrigation system, but the required amount was not available. Therefore, he applied for a loan to the Microfinance organization (MFO) “KMF”.

The loan manager advised to take an advantage of the Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) programme from the EBRD, and to select an eligible model of a drip irrigation system on the Green Technology Selector website. All equipment registered on the website of the Selector is energy efficient and complies with the construction norms and regulations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, international standards, and the EBRD’s energy saving requirements.

“Adverse weather conditions revealed a problem with my old irrigation system last year. It was urgently required to be replaced in order to reduce water consumption and labor costs. Now, I can increase my income with the new equipment,” said Nikolai Syzdykov.

This project was supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance.
