TurSEFF loan supports green energy generation from biomass in Kırklareli, enabling Ekomas Energy to contribute to the renewable energy transition and climate change mitigation.

Ekomas Enerji Elektrik Üretim ve Dağıtım A.Ş. (Ekomas Energy) operates in the energy sector and has established a biomass power plant in Türkiye’s Kırklareli province.

The company signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Kırklareli Organized Industrial Zone (OIZ). The electricity generated at the plant is supplied to the OIZ, helping companies within the zone reduce their carbon footprints through the use of renewable energy.

To this end, the company decided to undertake the investment through TurSEFF in order to benefit from the engineering, financial, and marketing services provided alongside the financing (technical assistance package).

The biomass power plant was implemented with the support of €1,183,700 TurSEFF finance in 2020. The plant is expected to provide 68,305 MWh of energy savings, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and supporting Türkiye’s clean energy targets.

The project is expected to contribute to the reduction of 21,857 tons of CO₂ emissions per year by recovering energy from 230 tons of waste each day, making significant contributions to environmental sustainability and combating climate change through clean energy generation.

Türkiye Sustainable Energy Financing Facility (TurSEFF) was developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is co-funded by the European Union (EU), the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Treasury and Finance (MoTF), and supported by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (MoENR).
