Located in Peshku village, Bukhara region, BUKHARA GOLD GRANIT LLC was established in 2022 to meet the growing demand for high-quality granite building materials in Uzbekistan’s construction sector. The company specializes in granite extraction, processing, and slab finishing, and quickly identified the need to replace its outdated production equipment in order to boost efficiency and capacity.
Through financing provided by the GEFF II programme in Uzbekistan, the company undertook a major modernization initiative — a $2.5 million investment into a new production line for granite slabs, sourced from CNC BIRLIK MAKINE МУ METAL SAN TIC A.S. (Türkiye). Backed by a loan of $1.9 million from JSCB “Uzpromstroybank”, and supported by GEFF technical assistance, the upgrade introduced cutting, polishing, and calibration machinery, all fitted with variable speed drives (VSDs) for optimal energy management.
This modernization yielded significant benefits. The facility’s energy use per square meter of granite output dropped by 55%, saving 296 MWh of electricity annually and cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 158 tonnes. At the same time, the company increased its production volume by 41%, reaching 120,000 m² of slabs per year, and anticipates $525,000 in new yearly revenue. With a payback period of 4.6 years when including financial gains, the investment is proving both cost-effective and environmentally impactful.
By adopting cutting-edge production technologies, BUKHARA GOLD GRANIT LLC is setting a new standard in Uzbekistan’s stone manufacturing sector, aligning operational growth with sustainability goals.
The Green Economy Financing Facility in Uzbekistan (GEFF II in Uzbekistan), which supported this investment, was developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is backed by Canada through the EBRD’s High-Impact Partnership on Climate Action, the Climate Investment Funds, and the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund.
