ElHamd invested in energy efficiency to improve its service quality and competitiveness.

ElHamd Radiology is a private medical services provider located in Luxor Governorate. The centre provides a variety of medical services such as: X-ray, CT scan and Echocardiogram (Echo).

ElHamd was looking to improve its competitiveness through improving its diagnostic service quality. The centre invested in a new High Performance Computed Tomography (CT) unit that is characterized by efficient energy consumption and an improved imaging quality, in replacement of an old inefficient one. The new unit also requires less scan time, which results in less waiting time for patients, allowing the centre to serve a higher number of patients per day.

The GEFF team evaluated the technical and financial parameters of the project, provided technical support to ElHamd in the selection of best available technologies and confirmed the benefits associated with the investment. The team also provided an environmental assessment of the project impact, in addition to the economic assessment.

The US$ 212,281 investment helped reduce overall energy consumption by the equivalent of 46 MWh per year (37%). The centre’s reduction in their energy consumption, in addition to the benefits of improved service quality helped ElHamd improve its profitability and competitiveness.

The reduction of greenhouse gases associated with this investment is estimated at 26.8 tonnes of CO2 per year, a valuable contribution to mitigating the negative impacts of climate change.

GEFF Egypt was developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is supported by the European Union Neighbourhood Investment Facility.
