E&M Saves Energy & Reduces Hazardous Waste

New plastic injection machine purchased with the help of GEFF result in energy savings and reduced hazardous waste.

EM is an Egyptian Shareholding Company established in 2006. The company is among the leaders in electric industries, specialized in energy saving lamps, LED lamps, switches & sockets, wall cover plates and other electric accessories. The company is E.S and ISO9001 certified.

To reduce production cost, E&M started looking into the energy performance of its production facility located in Badr City. They embarked on a project to replace five plastic injection machines with more energy efficient ones, which would result in USD 37,304 in profit, from energy savings.

The GEFF team performed the project analysis, assessed the potential of energy savings, financial-technical parameters and risks.

The USD 208, 617 investment allowed the company to reduce the energy consumption by 3,954 MWh per year, resulting in the annual costs savings of USD 37,304. This means the investment will be repaid out of energy savings in 2 years and 3 months, continuing to generate profit for many years to follow.

The new equipment led to a reduction of the CO2 emissions by 612 tonnes per year, making a valuable input towards mitigation of negative effect of human activity on climate, also by reducing the amount of hazardous waste.

GEFF Egypt was developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is supported by the European Union Neighbourhood Investment Facility.
