New Tetrapack line purchased with the help of GEFF result in energy savings and production increase for Domty.

The Arabian Food Industries Co. (Domty) is one of the largest Juice, and dairy producers in Egypt. The Company was established in 1990 producing 2 types of cheese only. Domty now offers a wide range of products and flavours and is now exporting to over 30 countries worldwide.

To reduce production cost, and increase production capacity, Domty upgraded an old Tetra PaK line at its production facility in the Giza Governorate. The company replaced an old line that produced 5,500 packages per hour, while consuming 5.99 kWh per tonne of product, with a new line that reduced energy consumption to 4.46 kWh per tonne of product while increasing production capacity to 8,000 packages per hour.

The GEFF team performed the project analysis, assessed the potential of energy savings, financial-technical parameters and risks, and confirmed the viability of the project in achieving increased competitiveness and productivity for Domty.

The USD 836,827 investment allowed the company to reduce the energy consumption by 90.3 MWh per year (25%), resulting in an increased production capacity of 45% on that production line.

The new equipment led to a reduction of the CO2 emissions by 18 tonnes per year, making a valuable input towards mitigation of negative effect of human activity on climate.

GEFF Egypt was developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is supported by the European Union Neighbourhood Investment Facility.
