The new energy-efficient heating system allowed a large family to reduce the cost of heating and hot water

A resident of Chundzha village, the Uygur district of Almaty region, is a caring mother of a large family. Her family lives in a private house, which needs to be heated to enable better condition for small children. Previously, her house was heated with coal, and it was rather inconvenient. The air in the house was always dry, and the walls were constantly dirty with coal dust. The woman decided to install gas heating in the house. She contacted the Microfinance organization (MFO) “KMF” to finance the purchase of a gas boiler. The loan manager informed her about the Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) program from the EBRD. With this program, it is possible to receive incentives not only on gas equipment but also on related costs, for example, on gasification.

The loan manager helped to select an eligible model of an energy efficient gas boiler from a well-known Korean manufacturer on the Green Technology Selector website. The woman used the services of a gas company to lay on gas into her house. After the completion of all works on gasification and installation of the gas boiler, the necessary documents were submitted for verification-check to the GEFF Programme through a loan manager of the MFO “KMF”. In a few weeks, the woman received an incentive in the amount of 10% of both equipment purchase costs and gasification costs, which have been accomplished with credit funds of the MFO “KMF”. Now the house has gas heating and hot water, and the family’s heating costs have been decreased. Also, a modern gas boiler helps to reduce CO2 emissions by 1.133 tons per year. “It is very good that such international programs as GEFF exist. They help to make the right choice in favor of high-quality energy efficient equipment. With a help of a loan from the MFO “KMF”, it is possible to split the purchase price ranging in duration from 3 to 84 months and not to overload the family budget. The 10% incentive I received was also a pleasant bonus.”

This project was supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance.
