Kastamonu Entegre – A BPP project​ in Balıkesir, Türkiye

GEFF Türkiye loan is helping renewable energy projects (biomass) in forestry sector.

Kastamonu Entegre Ağaç San. ve Tic. A.Ş. specializes in producing raw and melamine-coated particle boards, MDF, laminate flooring, countertops, and door panels for the furniture, decoration, and construction industries.​

The Balıkesir Biomass Power Plant project aims to utilize process waste from the company’s forestry products production facility to generate electricity using ORC technology.

To this end, in 2022, the company, having partnered with GEFF Türkiye, decided to undertake the investment through GEFF Türkiye in order to benefit from the engineering, financial, and marketing services provided alongside the financing (technical assistance package).

The total loan amount was €15,000,000 and the plant will process 155,000 tons of waste annually, including 50,000 tons from a new MDF facility commissioned in 2023.​

The power plant is expected to generate 89,744 MWh of electricity per year, resulting in GHG savings of 28,718 tonnes CO2eq annually. The project supports sustainable production by using waste as a renewable energy source and reduces dependency on external energy supplies.​

The Green Economy Financing Facility in Türkiye (GEFF Türkiye) was developed by The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is supported by Clean Technology Fund (CTF), Republic of Turkiye Ministry of Treasury and Finance (MoTF) and EBRD Shareholder Special Fund.
