Wind farm construction reduced SO2 emissions by 143,138 tonnes per year

Zheruyik Energo LLP was established in 2016 with the aim of implementing an investment project for the construction and operation of a wind power plant with a total capacity of 48.5 megawatts. The wind farm is located at a distance of more than 1 km from the village of Shelek, Enbekshikazakh district, Almaty region.  The power plant operates 25 wind turbines. The total investment cost of construction amounted to 26.2 million US dollars, 5.4 million of which was financed by Bank CenterCredit JSC.

The management of Zheruyik Energo LLP learned about the Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) from the EBRD from their loan manager at Bank CenterCredit JSC. The loan manager convinced the company to take advantage of the GEFF Program. As a result of the project implementation, the reduction of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere will be reduced by 143,138 tons per year.

“Thanks to the financing provided to us by JSC Bank CenterCredit under the Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) from the EBRD, we managed to complete the construction of the power plant and put it into operation,” commented the director of Zheruyik Energo LLP, Mr. Shelkov E.K.

This project was supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance.
