Milling equipment modernization.
Founded in 2005, Les Moulins Karaouiyine is a Moroccan SME specialized in the production of cereal flours and semolina. As part of the agri-food value chain, les Moulins Karaouiyine manufactures several different products adapted to meet the diverse needs of different customers including individuals and companies, requested financing and technical assistance from the Green Value Chain (GVC) programme to increase performance of the milling operation.
The company les Moulins Karaouiyine invested in new highly efficient milling unit with a capacity of 20 tons per hour, a notable increase from the previous 12 tons per hour capacity of the outdated machinery. This new unit not only offers exceptional performance and advanced capabilities but also prioritizes energy efficiency, leading to reductions in both operational costs and environmental impact.
This implementation of this investment benefiting from technical assistance and financing provided by Green Value Chain enabled the company to further improve its competitiveness and penetrate new markets while minimizing its energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions compared to the baseline, thanks to a reduction in energy consumption estimated to 134 MWh/year, a reduction of GHG emissions of 76.38 TCO2/year compared to the existing equipment. In addition, the new machines offer an average annual monetary saving of MAD 117,005, an increased reliability, quality, safety, and academic performance.
Green Value Chain (GVC) in Morocco is a credit facility of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to provide funding to local partner financial institutions for on-lending to Moroccan SMEs belonging to agribusiness, processing industries and logistics value chains and ecosystems.
