Investment in five new generation compressors to improve the energy efficiency of a cold storage

Frigo Ennaser is a Moroccan company located in the Chaouia Ouardigha region and specialised in the cold storage of agricultural products, particularly potatoes and apples. Aware of the impact of energy costs on its competitiveness, the company modernised and extended its cold storage facility by lowering costs and reducing waste.

The company approached MorSEFF for the financing of the €220,523 investment in new cold storage rooms and to assess the efficiency of the new installations.

The MorSEFF team assessed the project feasibility and impact and as they concluded, investing in the five new generation semi-hermetic compressors combined with overheating regulation via electronic expansion valves allowed more precise adjustment, lower energy consumption by 36% and decreased greenhouse gas emissions by 156.6 TCO2e/year.

Frigo Ennaser investment allowed the company to reduce the storage costs and generate a better profitability via a decrease of the specific energy consumption. Furthermore, this cost-effective cold storage solution supported the Moroccan agricultural producers in the reduction of waste in the value chain.

For the successful implementation of the energy efficiency project, Frigo Ennasser was awarded a € 22,052 grant, representing 10% of the loan amount.

Morocco Sustainable Energy Financing Facility (MorSEFF) was developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in cooperation with the French Agency for Development (AFD), and the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) and supported by the European Union and the multi-donor account SEMED.
