The largest bricks producer invest in technological improvements and enjoys the energy saving result

JSC Macon is the largest manufacturer of bricks in Moldova and among the oldest production companies in the country, dating from the end of the 19th century. The company sells its products in Moldova and abroad and has gained multiple awards for high quality in various production aspects, including the best tax payer award.

To reduce the energy consumption of one of the most energy intensive production units, the company decided to apply for MoSEFF financing.

The MoSEFF team supported the company with analysis of the proposed efficient technologies, the potential areas for energy savings, their financial-technical parameters and profitability.

The final project comprised installation of VSD controllers at the fan drives to improve the efficiency of the tunnel oven fans, installation of a power correction unit for reactive power compensation and measures to downscale the motors size.

The €48,000 investment allowed JSC Macon to decrease the electricity consumption of one of its most energy intensive units by 26 per cent, leading to substantial annual cost savings. The investment will be repaid out of energy savings in just two and a half years, turning the future cash-flows into company income for the years to follow. In addition, the company reduced its CO2 emissions by 208 tonnes per year.

The small investment produced results that have a direct impact on the company’s bottom line. For its high energy savings and achievements the project was awarded the “Industrial Energy Efficiency Award” at the EBRD-EU Sustainable Excellence Awards.

The EBRD, through MoSEFF, supports the implementation of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in the private sector in Moldova. Together, the private, residential and public sectors can make a change in energy consumption patterns and contribute to environmental protection.

This project was supported by the European Union (EU).
