Investment in a new CHP brings notable energy savings and allows increased production capacity

The company is an SME supplier of electricity and heat to a a company that grows flowers in greenhouses. Due to increased demand, the company decided to expand its production capacity and install a new co-generation unit.

The company approached PolSEFF for affordable financing.

The PolSEFF team performed analysis of the proposed technology, its potential for energy savings and profitability.

The €757,187 investment allowed the company to achieve ultimate energy savings of 3.6 million MWh per year. The investment will be repaid from energy savings in just three years. The savings arise from more efficient use of primary energy by simultaneous production of electricity and heat. In addition, the company increased its supply capacity by 11 per cent and reduced CO2 emissions by 3,286 tonnes per year.

This project has positively affected two companies – the generation company and the greenhouse – enhancing their competitiveness and security of supply.

The EBRD, through PolSEFF, supports the financing of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects by the private sector. Together, the private, residential and public sectors can make a change in energy consumption patterns and contribute to environmental protection.

This project was supported by the European Union (EU).
