The new CCHP plant resulted in over $482,000 annual cost savings for DAMFI.

The National Company for CCHP (NCCHP), a special-purpose vehicle established by Intro Group, has invested in a high-efficiency Combined Cooling, Heat and Power (CCHP) plant to supply energy to a factory owned by Dough and More Food Industries (DAMFI) in 6th of October City.

DAMFI is a leading Egyptian bakery supplying top brands like McDonald’s Egypt and KFC with buns, toast, and flatbread. To reduce energy costs and improve its environmental footprint, DAMFI signed a 15-year Energy Purchase Agreement (EPA) with NCCHP. The agreement covers electricity, steam, and cooling from the new trigeneration plant, which includes a gas engine, a heat recovery boiler, and an absorption chiller.

NCCHP secured a $1.01 million loan through GEFF Egypt, along with a 15% incentive ($151,400) for meeting EU-aligned technology standards.

The investment replaced an inefficient diesel generator and boiler, which previously consumed 3.4 million litres of diesel annually. The new CCHP system now delivers:

  • 7.56 GWh of electricity

  • 6,720 tonnes of steam

  • 4.61 GWh of cooling energy resulting in a 35% reduction in energy costs.

Operational efficiency has risen from 46% to 80%, generating 15,481 MWh in primary energy savings and cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 4,962 tCO₂e annually—a 55% reduction in the plant’s carbon footprint.

This transition not only boosts DAMFI’s sustainability credentials but also strengthens its competitive edge in the market.

Alongside financing, GEFF Egypt provided free technical support, helping assess the project’s technical and financial viability and ensuring the use of best practices.

The Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF), was developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is financially supported by the EU, EIB and AFD.
