Semi-trailer equipped with a thermo king refrigeration unit

KM TRANSPORT is a Moroccan SME specializing in the national and international transport of all types of goods on behalf of others. With more than 10 years of experience, it provides transport as well as support for export and import operations at the port of TANGER MED. The main energy consumption item identified within the company is the diesel consumption of transport trucks, part of which is consumed by refrigeration units to generate cold.

In order to better meet the growing demand of its customers, KM Transport intends to make a new investment aimed at acquiring a Chereau performance semi-trailer equipped with a Thermo King refrigeration unit. To finance this project, the company benefited from the Green Value Chain facility by leasing from SOGEALEASE MAROC.

The Chereau Performance semi-trailer is equipped with VIP “Vacuum Insulated Panel” technology, a technology based on vacuum, which allows to achieve a high level of insulation performance and 100% telematics through the TK BlueBox communication system which offers the possibility of controlling the temperature remotely. The new refrigeration unit will thus considerably reduce refrigerant leaks and energy consumption.

This new investment of nearly €68,000 enables the company to achieve savings in diesel consumption of 506 L/year, corresponding to a 50% reduction compared to usual consumption. The return on investment of this investment has been estimated at just over 4 years. GHG emissions will thus be reduced by 1.64 tCO2eq each year.

Green Value Chain (GVC) in Morocco is a credit facility of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development(EBRD) to provide funding to local partner financial institutions for on-lending to Moroccan SMEs belonging to agribusiness, processing industries and logistics value chains and ecosystems. Supported by the European Union, the Green Climate Fund(GCF), the Korean Technical Assistance and Cooperation Account (KTACA) and the EBRD Shareholder Special Fund (EBRD SSF), the facility aims to improve competitiveness of SMEs and that of their value chains and ecosystems through highly efficient green investments.
