Nile scan invested in energy efficiency to improve its service quality and competitiveness.

Nile Scan & Labs is the one of the leading providers of diagnostic radiology and clinical laboratory services. The centre has a large network of centres in various locations in Cairo and is dedicated to improving the overall experience of care, with a specific focus on diagnosis. The centre has been providing its medical services for over 20 years.

Nile scan was looking to improve its competitiveness through improving its diagnostic service quality. The centre invested in a new CT scan unit that is characterized by efficient energy consumption and an improved imaging quality. Additionally, the new unit requires less scan time, which results in less waiting time for patients, allowing Nile scan to serve a higher number of patients per day.

The company benefited from the Green Technology Selector in selecting pre-approved technologies that helped fast-track the GEFF loan application. The GEFF team confirmed the project benefits associated with the investment.

The US$ 144,737 investment helped reduce overall energy consumption by the equivalent of 5,867 MWh per year (33%). The centre’s reduction in their energy consumption, in addition to the benefits of improved service quality helped Nile scan improve its profitability and competitiveness.

The reduction of greenhouse gases associated with this investment is estimated at 908 tonnes of CO2 per year, a valuable contribution to mitigating the negative impacts of climate change.

GEFF Egypt was developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is supported by the European Union Neighbourhood Investment Facility.
