New water treatment plant consumes 94% less energy, while allowing twice the production output and improved quality

The company is a medium sized family textile business located in Lodz, the centre of the Polish textile industry since the 19th century. The company focuses on colouring, bleaching, scouring, processing and trimming of fabrics, as well as digital printing on knitted and textile fabrics.

To reduce energy consumption, and increase production capacity and quality, the company decided to replace its water treatment plant.

The company approached PolSEFF for an affordable financing and technical package for this investment.

The PolSEFF team performed the analysis of the proposed technology, its potential for energy savings, financial-technical parameters and profitability.

The €214,000 investment allowed the company to reduce its energy consumption significantly by 94 per cent, while increasing the production capacity by 100 per cent. The investment will be repaid from energy savings alone in one year. In addition, the company reduced its CO2 emissions by 550 tonnes per year, making a valuable contribution to mitigation of the negative effect of human activity on the climate.

This project has, crucially, improved the company’s financial standing and competitiveness on the market, contributing to its secure future. It demonstrates that investments related to energy efficiency may be among the most profitable and quickly repaid ones. Therefore, it is worth checking the energy saving potential of possible investment measures.

The EBRD, through PolSEFF, supports the sustainable financing and implementation of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects by the private sector.
