The company is a warehouse operator in the Irkutsk region of Russia – an area with a wide range of temperatures throughout a year. Facing high energy costs, the company started thinking about the ways to decrease energy consumption.
The company contacted RuSEFF for help in identifying potential energy saving measures and assistance with financing. The RuSEFF team supported the company with a free-of-charge energy assessment of the production facilities. It was discovered that the enterprise had no temperature or weather control system, which is inefficient and leads to high energy bills. Therefore, the suggested project included installation of air heat exchangers and automatic weather controlled regulation system to optimise the heating system.
The €18,000 investment allowed the company to reduce its energy consumption by 280 MWh per year, leading to annual cost savings of €4,500. This means the investment will be repaid from energy savings in just four years and the cost savings can be seen as additional income. The company will feel the investment benefits immediately with reduced energy bills and improved working conditions and operations. Finally, the company reduced its CO2 emissions by 25 tonnes per year, making a small but valuable contribution to the mitigation of the negative effects of human activity on the climate.
This project demonstrates that energy efficiency investments are possible in all type of companies and industries, even in those without complicated technological processes. In addition, such investments usually lead to other benefits, such as improved working conditions or quality of services. Therefore, it is worth checking the energy saving potential of possible investments measures to choose the most profitable and attractive investment.
