Energy-efficient technologies and green financing helped the greenhouse business grow and reduce CO₂ emissions
Ecoinvest S.A., founded in 2017 in the village of Karamurt, Sairam District, Turkestan Region, has been successfully engaged in vegetable cultivation for over eight years. The company specializes in growing vegetables (cucumbers and tomatoes), as well as producing their seeds and seedlings. It operates its own greenhouses with an annual production capacity of up to 6,000 tons of vegetables. The greenhouse complex was commissioned in January 2020. Following the successful implementation of the first phase, the company decided to develop an additional 9.5 hectares and construct more greenhouses.
Like many farming enterprises in the region, the company strongly feels the need for a stable electricity supply to ensure efficient agricultural operations. Frequent power outages in the area have become a serious challenge for the business. To ensure uninterrupted operation of its irrigation systems, the company’s management decided to invest in a sustainable energy solution — the installation of ground-mounted solar panels. The region’s high level of solar activity made it a natural choice for implementing this idea.
Thanks to the EBRD’s Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) and financial support from Bank CenterCredit, the company purchased and installed 940 solar panels from a well-known Chinese brand. This system not only meets the enterprise’s energy needs but also reduces its environmental impact by lowering CO₂ emissions and decreasing dependence on unstable external energy sources.
“It is essential for us that irrigation takes place on time and without interruptions. Solar panels allow us to generate clean energy and preserve the natural environment on which our business depends,” said Mr. Beisembekov S.P. the head of the company.
