Cutting Energy Costs, Expanding Candy Production
Al-Sanad Food Industries has earned its place as a pioneer in Jordan’s food sector, offering soups, light meals, spices, beverages, candies, and sweets through a portfolio of well-known brands such as Bobby Bear, Cakes Bakes, Chef Mario, and Mario Gummy. With products enjoyed by households across Jordan and abroad—including exports to the United States—the company continues to expand its presence while staying true to quality and innovation.
To strengthen its competitiveness and reduce reliance on costly grid electricity, Al-Sanad took a bold step toward renewable energy. With support from the Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) through Cairo Amman Bank, the company invested US$ 29,196 in a 75 kWp rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system. The project received a 10% cashback incentive of US$ 2,919, giving Al-Sanad the confidence to make the shift.
The solar installation is already delivering results: lowering electricity bills, improving energy security, and cutting greenhouse gas emissions by about 23 tonnes annually. In energy terms, the system avoids around 313 GJ of primary energy use each year, helping the company meet sustainability goals while strengthening its bottom line.
By investing in solar, Al-Sanad shows how food producers can power growth with clean energy, reducing costs and protecting the environment at the same time.
The Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) in Jordan is developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is supported by the European Union (EU) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
