GEFF helps textile sector supplier’s renewable energy projects, with PV panels selected from Green Technology Selector (GTS).
As a women-led company, Palmiye Textile, operating in the textile sector in Adana, is a large-scale manufacturer utilizing technologies such as yarn twisting/spinning, weaving, dyeing, and finishing across a 200,000 m² facility. In addition to specializing in polyester-viscose blended fabrics, the company also produces cotton, linen, and lyocell blends.
Based in Adana, a province affected by the “February 2023 Earthquakes”, Palmiye Textile sought to reduce energy costs associated with its production processes and wastewater treatment plant by investing in a rooftop solar PV system. The company applied to GEFF Türkiye to access financing and benefit from technical assistance for the implementation of this renewable energy investment.
GEFF Türkiye advised the company on alternative and cost-effective ways to implement the investment. The GEFF team supported the company in using the Green Technology Selector to select optimum pre-approved panels for the plant.
In 2023, with €2,119,463 financing from GEFF Türkiye, Palmiye Textile selected solar panels from the Green Technology Selector and installed a 3,795.6 kWp rooftop solar power plant to reduce energy costs. This rooftop SPP investment is expected to support the company’s sustainability goals, generating 4,712 MWh of electricity annually.
Furthermore, by this investment the company will reduce 1,653 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent emissions per year. This emission reduction will contribute to the company’s environmentally sustainable operations.
The Green Economy Financing Facility in Türkiye (GEFF Türkiye) was developed by The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is supported by Clean Technology Fund (CTF), Republic of Turkiye Ministry of Treasury and Finance (MoTF) and EBRD Shareholder Special Fund.
