Uzbekistan Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF I)

 

  • The Uzbekistan Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF I) was implemented in 2019-2024 with the objective of promoting sustainable investments in the residential and business sectors through local partner financial institutions (PFIs).
  • The Facility made available up to USD 60 million in financing via four local participating financial institutions. In total, 179 loans were provided, supporting the adoption of green technologies and energy-efficient solutions across the country.
  • These investments generated substantial environmental benefits, including annual primary energy savings of 547,458 GJ and reductions of over 22,091 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, thereby contributing to Uzbekistan’s national climate and energy-efficiency targets. In addition, the financed projects achieved estimated water savings of approximately 9,425 m³ per year, further enhancing resource efficiency across participating sectors.
  • The success of GEFF I was made possible with the financial assistance of the Taiwan Business – EBRD Technical Cooperation Fund, the Federal Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Austria and the EBRD Shareholders Special Fund.
